Being a noob is something everyone goes thru, me many times because I keep forgetting stuff
As a first attempt you might want to try the orinoco driver that is usually included in the kernel.
try (as root):
and see if that starts up your wireless card by running:
and see if anything comes up
If that doesn't work, and you want to try the hostap driver then click
here to get the driver and the utilities packages. You'll want the latest stable releases of both: hostap-driver-0.3.7 and hostap-utils-0.3.7.
untar them and then take a look at the README file for installation instructions.
You may need to upgrade the firmware of your card - check out the instructions
here

Just follow the instructions and post any problems that come up...
