DVD writer Difficulty

I Have an LG GSA-4082B 8 speed dvd writer, I am unable to see it or mount it when I boot up normaly, If I boot up using the install or rescue CD in the DVD writer I am able to use it. This is a bit of a nuisance, can anyone tell me if there is a workround or cure for this problem, I am fairly new to Linux and am currently using Suse 9.2, I have the same problem with Suse 9.3.

there is a file /etc/fstab

see if there is a mention of /media/cdrecorder or /dev/cdrecorder or even /media/dvd or /dev/dvd

if there is there are options following this, which on suse, are usually set to automount.
