I know this will sound really stupid. But try mounting your dvd using the /dev/cdrom instead of /dev/cdrom2
I have the same drive, all devices show up as /dev/cdrom, with the cdrecorder having a second access at /dev/cdrecorder
In Mplayer, open up the prefernces menu and correct the link to your dvd player, since the last tab has the drive paths on it.
To try mounting a dvd manually, stick in a dvd, open a terminal, and, type..
su
root password
mount -t udf /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom
if it doesnt work
try
mount -t udf /dev/cdrom2 /media/cdrom2
and last you could try
mount -t udf /dev/cdrecorder /media/cdrecorder
Also, you might try right clicking and getting the properties of you DVD icon on your desktop, and redirect it to the correct device, which should be /dev/cdrom, as cdrom2 should be your second drive.
