DVD-ROM Problems!!!!!!!!!

Hi guys,

i have this weird problem with my DVD-ROM. i can only mount it when there is media in it & when i mount it, i can't eject the CD & change it another one. every time i want to change the CD or DVD i have to umount & then mount again! i didn't notice it before, so can you help me with this problem

& something else. when i try to play DVDs with MPlayer or XINE , it's not working. i get the message that the player can't read /dev/cdrom where my DVD is mounted!

any helpe would be very appreciated!

Hmm...

Why is this wierd. Is this a new problem. Are you running automount on the other drives?

One always has to mount a data CD before accessing the filesytem. And when you want change CD's you have to unmount.

well before i was using Mandrake 9.1 & i didn't have this problem. but when i switched to Slackware 9.1 i didn't know why it is different.
i hope this makes sense!

Mandrake uses supermount which will automount removable media for you and as you found out Slackware does not.

#ln -sf /dev/cdrom /dev/dvd

OK, now it makes sense about the difference between Mandy & Slack. so there is nothing i can do about the supermount?
