DVD player

Okay,

I've got RH 9.0 with whatever KDE and GNOME come with it. And I'll just say it now, I'm retarded when it comes to linux. I love it but I'm retarded. I want to get a DVD player to work on my RH box without really really hard installations. I'm not sure exactly how to install xine or anything so can someone like explain how?

Also, I installed Red Hat with a CD-ROM drive and I'm kinda confues because it is coming up as /mnt/cdrom instead of DVD or anything. The brand on the sys. info says DVD. PLEEEEEASE HELP ME!!!

Here's the address if you're compiling xine from source:
http://xinehq.de/index.php/faq#BUILDING

And don't forget to check xine home page for addtional info.

i'd assume xine is already installed.you're issue is probably trying to get dvd play-back of encrypted dvd's right?
9.0 doesn't include libdvdcss.you can either install it and re-configure xine to use it or get the ogle/okle rpm's from http://www.dtek.chalmers.se/groups/dvd/redhat.shtml

You can get Redhat 9 multimedia packages via apt from freshrpms. All dependencies are automatically resolved for you.
