dvd playback usb1.1

Im thinking about purchasing an external dvd player. I use a compaq ipaq so i cant use an internal drive. Will usb1.1 be sufficient in transferring the data from the drive to my computer? I have no way of upgrading to usb2 so just wondering if usb1.1 will work. Thanks for any help.

Well, I'm asuming that USB 1.1 is 12Mb/s so divided by eight would be 1.5 MB/s

And DVD 1x = 1.32 MB/s

On "paper" it looks okay... I'm not sure how much overhead USB uses...

Looking at a couple of manufactures, no one say that you can play DVD on 1.1

They max out at 6x CD read...so about .86MB/s (not fast enough for DVD)

I'd say you're out of luck..

Perhaps you have a good friend that will burn the DVD's to VCD format so you can still watch them ...

CHeers,

Gary
