DVD Burner IDE vs SATA

Hey,
I am interested in buying a DVD Burner for my Mandrake 10.1. However I need to know what the difference is between an IDE DVD burner and a SATA burner. Thanks!

what do you mean? one will have an IDE interface, the other will have a SATA interface.... support for both won't be a problem.

No SATA and PATA will not have any difference in speed, though the SATA cable can be as long as 39.37 inches (1 m) instead of 18 inches (45.72 cm) when using PATA IDE cable. PATA is sometimes faster than SATA because PATA has been around for over a decade and some manufactures that switched to SATA uses PATA to SATA bridge. You will probably have problems with SATA because the software has not matured yet.

The UDMA rating that CD-ROM/DVD-ROM uses is 2. This is well over enough to handle 16X DVD readers. For writing or burning, DVD drives will not be any faster than 8X at this time.
