Question DVD-Burner and Backup Software for Linux

I would like to make backup copies of my DVD collection. Some of them are getting pretty scratched up and I'm afraid they won't last much longer. My friend who uses Windoze has a piece of software that he uses with his DVD burner that makes copies of most of his DVDs, menus and all, called DVDXCopy Express. I'm wondering if there's a program like this for linux as well as what DVD drive would work well for this.

Thanks!

Look for 'vobcopy' and 'dvdrip'. Dvdrip is part of 'transcode' software package.
