Dual processor machine hangs on boot
This is a dual P3 1Ghz Dell P420 with 512MB and SCSI hard disk.
I'm a relative newcomer to Linux but have a Gentoo machine se up in the office workingish. However with this machine I installed Fedora Core 4 because of the long winded install process for Gentoo. It worked ok but I was struggling to get some of the odd sound stuff I do to work, so I decide to start fresh with Gentoo, as I know how to get it to work. I've just finished following the Gentoo installation guide and think i followed to the book, but now I reboot it gets stuck on the line: 511MB LOWMEM available. found SMP MP-table at 000fe710 DMI s.3 present. ACPI: LAPIC (acpi_id[0x01] lapic_id[0x00] enabled) Processor #0 6:8 APIC version 17 ACPI: LAPIC (acpi_id[0x02] lapic_id[0x01] enabled) Then nothing more happens. I have no idea what this means but assume there is a problem with the second processor. I'm fairly sure I enabled SMP into the kernel when I build the kernel. Can anyone tell me more about what is happening at this point and likely reasons for it to fail here. Cheers Richard |
check your hardware and also check for the man page and details about the smp karnel... Then you might re install it using the smp karnel.....
