Dual processor machine hangs on boot

This is a dual P3 1Ghz Dell P420 with 512MB and SCSI hard disk.

I'm a relative newcomer to Linux but have a Gentoo machine se up in the office workingish. However with this machine I installed Fedora Core 4 because of the long winded install process for Gentoo. It worked ok but I was struggling to get some of the odd sound stuff I do to work, so I decide to start fresh with Gentoo, as I know how to get it to work.

I've just finished following the Gentoo installation guide and think i followed to the book, but now I reboot it gets stuck on the line:

511MB LOWMEM available.
found SMP MP-table at 000fe710
DMI s.3 present.
ACPI: LAPIC (acpi_id[0x01] lapic_id[0x00] enabled)
Processor #0 6:8 APIC version 17
ACPI: LAPIC (acpi_id[0x02] lapic_id[0x01] enabled)

Then nothing more happens.

I have no idea what this means but assume there is a problem with the second processor. I'm fairly sure I enabled SMP into the kernel when I build the kernel.

Can anyone tell me more about what is happening at this point and likely reasons for it to fail here.

Cheers

Richard

check your hardware and also check for the man page and details about the smp karnel... Then you might re install it using the smp karnel.....
