Dual P3's and SMP kernel?

Hey everybody...
I was talking to a friend about my ubuntu linux setup I have going on with dual p3's. He asked if I had the SMP kernel? I am assuming it allows for the dual processors to work to maximize processor efficiency....again being newb...this just went over my head....

Needless to say, I do not have this so called SMP kernel...and am wanting to get it to maximize the processor power...can anyone assist?

I tried Googling it, but the results being returned don't seem to be related to what I want to do...

Can anyone help?

Any assistance provided is greatly appreciated..

Thanks,

SMP is a feature of the Linux Kernel. You can turn it on and off in the configuration, but most distributions stock kernels have it enabled these days.

I'm going to report this to have it moved to the ubuntu forum, I'm sure somebody there is more likely to know if ubuntu uses SMP by default or if there is a different kernel binary package you want to install to enable SMP.

If you cat /proc/cpuinfo and see two processors (one with id 0, oen with id 1) you should be ok.
