Dual NIC Configuration

I have a server with Intel Pro 1000 nic. I've installed the driver but I found that the DHCP that was configured on one port was asigning IP address on the second port. I also noticed that all the settings for both NICs were the same. What should they be? Is this really me problem?

as root type ifconfig and check the MAC address of both NICs. Does this change each time you boot ? i.e i had this problem with USB wireless adapter- sometimes it would be wlan0 sometimes wlan1. I solved this using udev rules

I must have been multi tasking when I gave that suggestion
Ok MAC address for a NIC will never change. what i meant to say was using ifconfig you can check if the same NIC (identified by the constant MAC) gets assigned different values like eth0 or eth1.

im not an expert but if you paste your config files (which distro r u using?) perhaps I or someone else on the forum may help.
