Unhappy Dual monitors refuse to stop cloning with XFree86 4.3.99 and Radeon 9000Pro

Hello all,

My setup is Ubuntu Linux 4.10, kernel 2.6.8.1-4-686, with XFree86 4.3.99, and an ATI Radeon 9000Pro video card (dual headed, one VGA and one DVI port, with a CRT plugged into each).

I've been trying to get my dual monitors set up correctly (as one large desktop) but no matter what I try they just clone each other (or don't display at all). I've tried altering my XF86Config-4 in every way that I can think of, using both the "radeon" and the "fglrx" driver, but nothing works. I have tried using the supplied fglrxconfig script that comes with that driver, but then X refuses to start at all using the generated config file, so since then I have been trying to set this up by hand using the radeon driver and Xinerama.

I wonder if anybody can see any problem with my XF86Config-4, or offer any other pointers. I'll include it below. Thank-you.

I am having the exact same problem with my Radeon 9550 card. I have 2 identical Viewsonic E771 monitors, but #2 just echos whatever #1 sees. the Config settings show only one display device (should there be 2 - one for each monitor?) and I only have settings for one monitor.

Currently running:
Mandrake 10.1
X.org 6.7.0
1.6ghz AMD
512MB Ram

Any help would be greatly appreciated
