dual monitors nvidia FX 5600
 

Hiya all, I've searched google, this site, and several other sites for a couple of days now and have not gotten an answer. Well, at least not one in english.

I've dual monitors on this card, they both fire during boot; same/mirror display, and #2 dies upon the initialization of the nVidia driver. #1 is a Optiquest CRT on the VGA connector, and #2 is an LCD on the DVI interface. I know Mandy will drive the LCD properly, I unplugged the CRT and test ran the LCD on the VGA connector with my digital camera/TV tuner, and played a DVD all aok. Oh, the LCD has a VGA connector, and I am using a VGA-DVI adapter to connect it to the second head incase you need to know that.

I've found referances to Xinerama, and nView. I've also found posts that nVidia's site had information, but after scrubbing it I could not find anything. Even tried a google with 'nvidia linux nview', and various others that should have hit but did not. I found this tldp<dot>org/HOWTO/Xinerama-HOWTO/
however it instructs on two video cards, not a dualheaded single card. There are sample XF86Config-4 files, I messed around with my config file, changing stuff to fit my system, like AGP pointers instead of PCI, and nvidia pointers for the driver. However, it did not seem to like 'sharing' the driver so to speak, and the how-to uses two different cards/drivers.

Anyhoo, I am at my wits end. I've also found posts that say the resolution of monitor #2 is wrong, or other 'cosmetic' issues. Upon asking these fellas HOW they got it to work it was always the same. Two cards, different brands, two drivers.

Does a single card with dual heads work? If so, may I PLEASE <nOOb whine> have some help?

My XF86Config-4 looks 'common'.

i have an nvidia geforce 2 with multihead. Nvidia actually has trememdous support for multihead in linux (works better than in windows really).
The feature I use is called TwinView. I use an older nvidia driver but i remember there being a README (twinview is one of the appendices)with the driver that i downloaded.

Check for that readme and try googling 'nvidia twinview xfree86'

As skel said, go to the nvidia site and read the readme that comes with the video drivers
