Dual Monitor problems with XFree86

I have a problem that I can't quite resolve. I've tried quite a few things. I had Xinerama working just fine. But I updated the kernel, and it now clones the first screen onto the second.

My Xinerama appears to be working. Whenever I open a new application it opens on the second screen and I can see it in my workspace browser at the bottom and even move my mouse cursor to the second screen. However, the display that I see on the second monitor is a clone of the first. If I log in via VNC, I can see the whole desktop just fine. But on the monitors that are connected to the actual box, I get a clone of screen 0. Any ideas?

Here is my supporting information:
OS: Novell Linux Desktop SP2 (SuSE based)
kernel: 2.6.5
Video Card: ATI FireGL V3100 (RV370 5B64) dual head
Monitors: Dell flat screens

The XFree86Config-4 is generated by the fglrxconfig utility. I have added the Xinerama option.

Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Adam.

Try Option Clone "off" in the Server Layout section to see if it helps. Also I believe in the ServerFlags you should have the "Ximerama" "on" set as well.

Thank you, Stephen,

I appreciate the feedback. I tried both of these options individually as well as combined without success. Any other ideas out there?

Thanks in advance,

Adam.

I figured it out! Updating my kernal broke the ati driver. (Thanks Jon Brooks: http://cert.uni-stuttgart.de/archive.../msg00224.html )

So the way to fix it was to back up my XFree86Config-4 file, uninstall the fglrx (rpm -ev), then reinstall it (rpm -Uvh). Then I copied my back up file to XFree86Config-4 again and restart X.

Worked like a charm!
