Dual Display Question

Hi All,
I have an Averatec 5400 Laptop and am interested in setting up a dual display. Last time I followed a guide on the net and changed my xorg.conf and my pc would only boot into a text mode, the x server would not start - fortunately i had backed up a copy of original xorg.conf.
My question is this - does Via S3 Unichrome Pro (K8m800) even support dual display?
The reason I ask is that my external vga hookup works but it is a clone of my desktop. I want it to be either left or right so I can use lyricue and use one display as server and other as program, this will allow the user to move between slides and then send them to the server, audience sees only whats on the server which is better than scrolling backwards and forwards through slides in open office impress.

Another question would be - has anybody got usb2vga working in linux? I use mepis (etch) and Freespire 2.

this setup would be for church worship presentation.
I want my laptop working as its more portable than building a new pc with two video cards.

any ideas would be appreciated.
