hi

sounds like bios boot order is ide then sata?

try changing it

not sure what SSC means

2) can you see grub at initial boot stage or not pls? if so you see my signature for legacy and go to trouble-shooter

3) anyhow ....disconnect the data cable and power to sata...after discharging any static....install windows into ide drive...boot it to test it.
re-connect sata drive....boot live cd...install grub into ide drive
Ubuntu uses UUID so I do not think you need to change them....but you need to change these areas

## default grub root device
## e.g. groot=(hd0,0)
to hd1,0

too much trouble...

grub works great on the sata drive...

i really dont want change the boot order or to install grub on the other drive cause i may take it out in the future...

i wil try to play with jumpers and stuff and see how it ll work...

but everything is configured right in the grub config file right???

its hardware problem?

but why ubuntu cant see the drive??

Serial ATA and Parallel ATA drives use completely different controllers regardless of how linux enumerates them. So your SATA drive is not the IDE drive's master. Put the jumper back on "cable select" and plug the IDE drive into the master connector. If you pop it in another computer just plug it into the first available 80 pin connector and it'll decide whether it needs to be a master or slave. Using the master and slave jumper positions is really only for backwards compatibility with older drives using 40-pin ribbon cable.
