Drivers for playstation 2 controller

Hello. I have a playstation 2 controller to usb converter and I'd like to use it with linux. I thought it might be autodetected but no such luck. I've tried recompiling my kernel a few times to include the right module but each time something else wouldn't work. Is there a way I can get it to work without recompiling the kernel, loading as a module for example?

I'm running slackware 10 and kernel 2.4.26.

It's OK, I figured it out myself. I had to uncomment a line in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules so that the right module is loaded.
