Drive microcode update

Hi,
I get this message every now and then:
Code:

Device: /dev/sdb [SAT], WARNING: A firmware update for this drive may be available,
Feb 19 14:45:45 endor.moon smartd[784]: see the following Seagate web pages:
Feb 19 14:45:45 endor.moon smartd[784]: http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/207931en
Feb 19 14:45:45 endor.moon smartd[784]: http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/223651en
Feb 19 14:45:45 endor.moon partmon[775]: Checking if partitions have enough free diskspace: [  OK

I have downloaded the update, but have not done anything with it.
Will this destroy the drive, or should I just do nothing?

cheers

This web page link provided by you explains your question by itself.

If you want to go ahead please backup your datas, whatever you require.

Use a working UPS during microcode update.

Follow as the site/package says about updating.

Well, I tried it and it failed after copying the image to RAM. Maybe it was a good thing.
I had no backup and no where large enough to store the data. The instructions said to use an UPS, which I do not have.
THis is the exact message.
Code:

                        FAILED (In big RED letters)
No disc drive detected. Drive not found. Drive not Ready.
Turn of the power NOW.

Very bad tempered software.

cheers
