Unhappy DRI activation killed my keyboard?

After following the instructions here:

linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?s=&threadid=168951&perpage=15&pagenumber=1

to enable DRI on my savage card, I found that when the login screen comes up, after a few seconds a thick black line appears horizontally across the screen, which disables my keyboard?!

This is after a few seconds on the login screen when something is still loading, what are the last things to be processed before you login?

I disabled DRI in the XFree86 config file but still my keyboard is killed in the login screen.

My keyboard is okay in failsafe boot.

I thought it might be the video drivers?

I'm hell n00b so give it to me in laymans, cheers in advance :-S
