Downloads hang Centos 4.1

I'm not really sure if this is hardware or what, but whenever I try to wget something or even yum the process hangs about half way. Not always the same spot either is plus or minus a few percentaged. Yum hangs at primary.xml.gz around 26% and most downloads hang aroung 60%. I use Centos 4.1 with the 2.6.9-5 kernel.
Thanks,
Homer
