i have two systems

now when i put the hdd of one to other it starts looking for drivers which i had in my other system
so i cannot start linux with this other drive
such problem was not there in redat 7.3
redhat 8.0 also gave such problems.
hdd which do not have linux do not give such problems

Please look into your boot.log files to see if hardware autodetection on boot is on.
turning it on should solve your problem, otherwise you'd add to your modules.conf
on both machines the modules of the companion machine, to end up with identical
modules.conf. In this way, at each boot you always load twice the modules needed,
but always the needed ones. Beware, it's only a suggestion, I never tried it!

thnkas for ur reply
this was a problem 2 years back
now this problme stands solved
the entry in grub.conf specified the root partition as "/" instead of /dev/hdaX
so when i specified the root partition as the partion no. hda3 ,grub loaded the correct parttion instead of hdb3 which alsa had a root partition

regards
