Does the Playstation->PC USB adapter work with Linux?

Well, the topic pretty much explains it all. Does the product depicted here( http://www.lik-sang.com ) work with Linux? I wanted to know before I shelled out 15$ for it. Has anyone had success/problems with this product?

Maybe, but I doubt it.

That's probably the best answer you'll find around here, its a pretty odd little piece of hardware. The Debian guys are pretty much the only distro that has looked into a full port to playstation, so you might want to drop by their FAQ, or ask on the playstation channel, if its active, on irc.debian.org. If Sony created drivers for the PS/2's controllers, then someone probably ported them for a USB splitter, but as Sony's Linux release was a bit of a one off, and not really picked up and run with by the open community (last kernel to run on it was 2.2.1!), its doubtful. Gotta remember that the PS/2 is an entirely different architecture then a PC.

I don't think that's what he was asking... If he was running Linux on a PS2, then he wouldn't need an adapter to use the controller. What he is wanting to do (I think) is use the PS2 controller on his PC.
Anyway, my answer: It says it's HID compliant, so yes. I have a HID compilant USB keyboard, mouse, and joystick, and they all work fine with Linux. Just make sure you install the joydev module(I think that's what it's called). I compiled HID support straight into my kernel since I use a USB keyboard.

Yeah, but if there's a driver for it, it'll probably have originated with the PS/2, even if the device is hid compliant, its not by default going to be plug'n'play, since its an adapter to something, there still has to be support for that something. Kinda like how a USB hard drive is useless if you don't compile in support for scsi, if that makes sense.

What I really answered was a different question, you're right:

Is there support for the PS/2 controller under linux?

I dunno, see above.

Thanks, I'll go ask on the debian chatroom. On another note, I emailed their tech support directly so hopefully I'll have an answer in a couple of years

I'm not sure about linux compatibility (haven't ventured there yet) but I have a PS2 -> USB adapter I bought at Radio Shack for only $10. Might want to look into that instead. BTW, it works great with my Dual Shock 2 controller (in windows lol).

Update- yeah, it works. I got an email from the manufacturer saying it works on any kernel that supports HID devices.
