Does RH 9 detect Ram above 960MB?
 

Does RH 9 detect Ram above 960MB? I just increased my ram from 512mb to 1GB. Here is my FREE output:

total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 1030908 397132 633776 0 45180 216292
-/+ buffers/cache: 135660 895248
Swap: 2096472 15584 2080888

Which shows up as 1007 MBs.

But in my kernel log file(dmesg) it reads:

Memory: 1027428k/1048512k available (1333k kernel code, 17500k reserved, 1001k data, 132k init, 131008k highmem)

Which shows up as 1GB.

How and where can I check if memory above 960mb is supported(To me it looks like it sees more than 960mg but i get 2 different results)? Or is 4GB support in RH 9 by default, thus eliminating the need to check? Your help, tips, and advice are always appreciated.

k i am not sure i follow, you say you had 512, and you added additional ram to give you a gig of ram, and when you show the output of free, and a part of your log it tells you that you have a gig...and your asking if over 960 (wherever that number comes from) is supported???
can you try to elaborate on what your trying to get across, cause it just doesn't make sense to me?

I am sorry for the misunderstanding I am wondering why when I use "FREE" it doesn't show the full 1GB (1024 MGEGS) instead it show only 1007 MGs. Or am I not reading the output from "FREE" right. Or is the system not reading or recoginizing the ram properly? Bottom line is, do I have to make an adjustment in the kernel or is it fine like it is? If I do have to make the adjustment, how do I do it?

I also checked my /boot/config-2.4.xx-xx.x file and say that the CONFIG_NOHIGH-MEM was commented out but, I also saw this:

CONFIG_HIGHMEM4G=y

What does this mean? Does this mean the kernel supports upto 4GB of RAM?
