m running a project with red hat version 7.3, did a check on red hat's hardware compatibility list and found radeon 9800 pro do not have drivers for this version 7.3 ...
anybody out there tried the latest graphics card such as nvidia fx series and radeon series on red hat version 7.3 ? any success in locating drivers for the hardware ?
moreover, what is the max. resolution i can run on linux platform ? heard from a vendor that the max resolution linux supports up till 1600 x 1200 ? i had wanted to try out resolution of 2048 x 1536 or 2048 x 2048 - UXGA resolutions
well being not supported i think just means they don't pack a driver for the card...which i think you can just select the generic in the setup for ati or nvidia...not sure but i assume you could....and even if you couldn't ati has linux drivers for that card, as does nvidia for all their cards.....so regardless how you go about it, you'll get it to work in the end...
need to check another issue, what is the max resolution which linux can support for eg. the latest red hat version 9, does it support max resolution of 1600 x 1200 ? can it support resolution of 2048 x 1536 ? or 2048 x 2048
I have RH9 and have an ATI built Radeon 9800 pro card installed. Now I'm not a linux wizard but I can say I have had no luck getting anything but the generic vesa drivers to work with my card. Others have told me that they were able to get some fireGL ones to work. With the vesa drivers I can set a max res to 1920 x 1440. This prob doesn't help you but if your not good with linux, just a warning that it might be tricky to get drivers to work. Good Luck
