Does Linux support the Sagem Fast 800 ADSL Modem?

I will soon be ordering Tiscali Broadband (you'll have to google it, 5 post limit) and i'll be getting a Sagem Fast 800 ADSL Modem. I was wondering if I could use this with Linux, also could I use the Tiscali connection?

Use Free, you won't be disappointed, it's the best internet provider in France, IMO.
This modem works with Free, I have a Freebox, but it is (or was also used), and it
works.

Word of warning on Tiscali.

Ask them the contention ratio on the line first before you order (if that's possible?).

I got Tisacali last week, 2mbps in North London, and it was fine during the daytime (average 1.85mbps speed on a 2.3mbps stated connection) but come 6pm it died a death and was unuseable until about midnight. Called Tiscali and they said I was on a 50:1 contention ration line - unuseable in peak times - they've since said I've been transferred to a 20:1 line. It's still not blisteringly quick during peak times but is manageable for everyday surfing but forget any sizeable downloads.

It may be a one off as I've got relatives in norfolk and they're OK on Tiscali. just thought you should know cos if I know what I know now I'd have done my research first on broadband providers.

RE: Sagem Fast 800. Goto sagem.co.uk and navigate to the modem. Apparently it works under Linux. I say 'apparently' because I've not got that far yet - I'm here at the moment trying to find posts re: 'C compiler default output file name' issues as I've hid a dead end in trying to get the modem installed.

I've seen somewhere else that there's some other drivers for it, the Sagem, but can't remember where.

I'll post later regarding my progess (if any!!).

ps - bitten off more than I can chew for a newbie?? hehehe

For anybody else who should stumble across the 'C Compiler default ouput file name' issue:
I had to install the following packages:
GCC
GCC-G++
and...
BINUTILS.

It was only that I picked up on another thread that I found out about BINUTILS and when installing it states that it's 'required for compiling of C [and others] programs.

Thanks for all the replys people. Especilly magik and freakyg. I am aware of the 50:1 connection yet I don't think it'll be a hassle. I'm in a fairly small area. If not i'll get it fixed.
