Does Creative Sound Blaster 5.1 or Audigy Value work in Linux?

hello, I bought a Sound Blaster Audigy Value and though Mandriva 64bit edition sees it as SB Audigy LS all I get is hissing from it (it isnt listed in alsa compat list either).

Where I live, the other only audio cards are SB 5.1 and SB 64. Alsa lists the SB Live! 5.1 as compatible but is it the same as the SB 5.1?

The SB Live cards are old and near impossible to get here, what sound card can you recommend me? My distro is Mandriva 2006 64bit.

The sound card you have should work, although I can't guarantee it. I have an older SB 5.1 card in a secondary system, and it seems to work fine with ALSA, using Slackware 10.2. Not sure if I answered your question, but maybe that will help.
