does anyone know of a modem that works with fedora core 2?

i have tried 4 different modems (2 hardware and 2 winmodems)and none of them will work. the on that i thought would be my best bet was a usr sportster 33.6 ISA faxmodem 000840-01, but it didnt even seem to detect that it was there. i am willing to buy another modem if that is what i need to do, but i dont know which one i should get. or if by chance someone has any ideas that might make my modem that i have now work, i would be happy with that too. i am not new to computers, but am kinda new to linux, i have used it for a little over 7 months and have been very pleased with it, but this modem problem is getting annoying...
thanks in advance for any replies
Jack

Other modems

I have used an Elsa external modem sucessfully before...can't remember the model name, but I will get it for you tonight. Did you use internal or external modems? I have had the best luck with external modems on a com port.
