Does anyone know of a modem data dump utility?

I'm writing an application in Linux to communicate with a credit card reader. I'm experiencing some communication oddities, and I'm wondering if there is a good utility that can monitor the traffic on /dev/ttyS0, much like the tcpdump utility does for network traffic. Does anyone know of such a utility, or an easy way to monitor the traffic? Thank you in advance.

Did you search the web yet? Most of the ones I found are for windows but here is one for linux. Don't have a clue if it works.

There are lots of ways of monitoring serial traffic. Most require an additional serial port. One easy method would be to connect up windows PC and use hyperterminal.
