do dvd roms list under mnt as a cdrom?

I'm using redhat 9.0 and I am able to do everything with my dvd rom such as listen to music browse my data. But when I put in a dvd absolutely nothing happens.... I have xmovie which i thought supports dvds but maybe it doesnt. I have tried to installed xine, but I'm having trouble so I picked up xmovie on the rebound. I also saw that dvds don't mount and I think that means that they will have to be opened up only by a program.....

they have a mount point as a cdrom or cdrom1, and usually it has a symlink to /dev/dvd from the actual device /dev/hdx where is x is the proper device.

Thanks. I just wanted to make sure that Redhat was recognizing it correctly.
