dma_intr error

Hello all,

I have a question about a dma error that I am getting from dmesg with a Dell running RH7.3.

Here's some of my dmesg:

ide1: BM-DMA at 0xffa8-0xffaf, BIOS settings: hdcMA hddMA
hdc: hdc1 hdc2 < hdc5 hdc6 hdc7 hdc8 hdc9 hdc10 > hdc3 hdc4
hdc: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hdc: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriveStatusError BadCRC }

When ignorance abounds superstition become science, so here's some numerology for you: The last two lines repeat, for a total of nine iterations. That's equal to the number of linux partitions on this drive (ten total minus one FAT32 partition).

By the way, when I open up my box, the 80GB HD in question is awfully hot. Should I be worried? Should I install an additional fan somehow? Should I ignore it until something catches fire?

Thanks for the help,

Bob.

Hmmm, there were som funny typos in that last post that didn't appear in the preview. The typing near the toothy faces should read "hdcMA, hddMA".

Wierd, it happened again. Read the toothy things as "hdc" concatenated with a colon and that again concatenated with "DMA". Same for "hdd".
