Dma In Redhat 8, running kernel 2.4.18-24.8.0

running kernel 2.4.18-14.8.0 it worked fine enabling DMA on my DVD drive

i would edit my /etc/modules.conf and add
options ide-cd dma=1

then ran
/sbin/hdparm -d1 /dev/hdc

and everything would work fine.

using the newer kernel i added that line to modules.conf and ran
/sbin/hdparm -d1 /dev/hdc

and it doesn't work

gives permission debied to enable DMA

all done in su mode

anyone know what could be up?

I seem to have got it to work :-)
I added 'options ide-cd dma=1' to '/etc/modules.conf' and that has gotten things working for me.
