Dlink DWL-122

I am wanting to move to linux, but am having a bit of trouble. I want to connect to the internet with my d-link DWL-122 wireless usb adapter. I have looked around on the internet and have found claims of success when using both ndiswrapper and linux-wlan-ng. I have tried both on several distros, but have had only limited success (I can get the wirless adapter working in ubuntu 5.04 using ndiswrapper, but the connection is so slow as to be useless).

I am a newbe, and dont particulary care which distro i use, as long as i can get on the nt using my wireless adapter.

I was hoping to hear from others who have succesfully set up and use the Dling DWL-122.

What distro do you guys use?

How did you get the wireless adapter to work?

I am basicly looking for a distro that will alow me to connect to th net using my wirless adapter with the least amount of work possible. Any info would be great!

Charles

I use knoppix 3.7 with the 2.4 kernel. Open up a terminal, su, wlanctl-ng wlan0 lnxreq_ifstate ifstate=enable, enter. Wlanctl-ng wlan0 lnxreq_autojoin ssid='' authtype=opensystem, enter. Pump -i wlan0, enter

Three seperate commands, no caps, thats wlan"zero", and two backticks after ssid=.Sorry if I am being overly simplistic..

Looks Good. Are you running knoppix in live mode or do you have it installed on the hard disk? If installed on the hard disk do you have a debian style system, or a multi user system? Dose knoppix come with linux-wlan, or did you have yo install it yourself? Do you need to type th commands listed everytime you use knoppix, or just the first time? Thanks for the info

I am using knoppix 3.7 with the 2.4 kernel, the cd I am using came from a British magazine that I buy at Books-a-Million. It has a 2.6 kernel also but as near as I can tell that kernel doesn't use wlanctl-ng but ndiswrapper which I haven't had any success with. As far as installation type I have used wlanctl-ng with both the livecd and the hd install Debian style. I have to confess to being lazy with typeing the commands into the terminal. I just use the up or down arrows and the history function on the command line to enter the right commands and when it becomes too cluttered I clear the history and start over. I am sure it is just a matter of configureing the right script but I have been too lazy to do so.

Both kernels recognize my pcmcia network card perfectly(Netgear FA411), both will work with my static IP. Both will work with DHCP when connected thru the pcmcia card to my wireless router(Linksys WRT54G). Then when I want to connect wirelessly with the laptop(Toshiba) I use the 2.4 kernel ->wlanctl-ng ->DWL-122 -> WRT54G -> internet. Good luck.
