Ditto Max in slackware 10.2 ?

I have a Ditto Max parallel tape drive (though iomega really proprietized it) and I was wondering what I need to do to use it? I noticed KDE omes with Kdat.

I'm using the mobo's lpt. Kernel 2.4.31.

i created a mountpoint /mnt/tape.... but /dev/?

I figure with all the tinkering I've been doing, I better start backing things up.

To find out what device the tape was assigned use "dmesg" and trace through it to see what device was assigned to your tape.

Hope this helps.

parport0: PC-style at 0x378(0x778) [PCSPP,TRISTATE]
parport0: irq 7 detected
lp0: using parport0 (polling)

now what? is it possible to mount it like a regular drive?

mount /dev/parport0 (or is it lp0?) /mnt/tape ?????

Well... now you have to make an entry in your /etc/fstab.
It should be something like this:
Code:
/dev/lp0 /mnt/tape auto auto,user,rw,exec 1 2
Notice that the device (/dev) is the lp0 which the system detected and that it is mounted in the /mnt/tape directory that you created.
I used auto (the first auto) for the file type, but it could be reiserfs, vfat, or whatever file system you are using.
The second auto (the one besides user,rw,extc ...) means to auto-mount the tape, but you can also use 'noauto' if you want to load it 'by hand' whenever you need it.
