Display MacBook Pro on Samsung television with Fedora
 

I have a MacBookPro5,1 laptop, and I have installed the 64-bit version of Fedora 12 on it, in addition to the Mac OS X operating system.

When I'm running Mac OS X, I can connect my 720p Samsung television to the computer through its mini DVI port and the computer will go into a mode that will display on the television.

However, when I'm running Fedora and connect the television nothing happens.

What can be done to allow the laptop to display on the television when it is using Fedora?

Assuming that your Macbook Pro is using nVidia graphics card and assuming the nVidia module or driver is installed, install and use nvidia-settings. Then have nvidia-settings try to scan for connected monitors. Your TV should show up. Next you can either setup it up to clone what you see on the notebook is what you will see on your Samsung TV by selecting clone. Another option is configuring the TV so it spans to either the left, right, top, or bottom of your setup. You will then have to tell firefox to open up on the desire screen or just go to the desire screen to load up Firefox. Since Xorg has made a lot of changes, the touchpad will probably be limiting to the primary screen. I am not sure how to fix this because there is too many layers to figure out the problem.

Using a TV that has a resolution of 720p or 1280x720 and a Macbook Pro 15-inch with a resolution of 1440x900, one or the other will have to give up quality unless you do not mind panning the screen with your mouse cursor.

The utility nvidia-settings is a GUI program, so I am not going to tell you how to use it because it is that straight forward to use.

So, I assume that is the utility program that appears when someone installs the nVidia graphics drivers. I believe I've seen that application and know where to find it in the system.
