Disk error: ATA2.00 status DRDY

Hi

I have an HP Z2 running on Debian 9 kernel 4.9.189-3+deb9u2.
The system boots from the default nvme drive but my root file system sits on a separate 1Tb SSD drive.
Suddenly I started having errors at boot:

ata2.00 status : [DRDY]
ata2.00 failed command: WRITE FPDMA QUEUED
ata2.00 cmd 61/50:d0:78:14:e4....
ata2.00 res 40/00:cc:58....

and this keeps repeating several times, then I get press CTRL+D or enter root password for maintenance.

when I press CTRL+D the system boots normally, but it is quite unstable.

Since the system boots but it seems to have problems mounting the root fs I have assumed that the issue was a defective SSD drive, so I replaced it.

After replacing the drive, everything worked well for several weeks, but now, suddenly the error is back again.

Is it a hardware issue? What is it causing it?

All I get from trying to open that is a white viewport. http://pastebin.com/ always works for me.

I would try smartctl -t long to see if device failure is indicated.

Use smartctl -X to abort test.

No visual output of any kind. I guess it generated some sort of report somewhere. Where can I find it?

Anyway... it figure it out...

So... the test is negative.

So it may be an issue with the controller on the motherboard... or the SATA cable...

It would be helpful to know what this stuff mean...
