Disk druid not detecting my iomega 80GB external USB drive as a target for install

I was trying to install Fedora core 2 on my laptop without ruining the existing setup in its IDE hard disk. But then disk druid was not detecting my iomega 80GB external USB drive as a target for installation. Only the IDE hard disk was shown to edit/create/modify partitions. My system BIOS detected the hard disk and it was available in the list of bootable devices, it again is working perfectly under Windows. What can i do?

If i partition the USB HDD with a Knoppix version, will it be accepted as an installable target? Is there a way to overcome the installation bottle neck....

With regards,
Jagadeesh Bhaskar

linux mounts USB mass storage as SCSI, so your usb drive will appear as /dev/sda1 (assuming you dont have any other scsi stuff on your computer) check to see if thats there..

there should also be some messages you can pass to the kernel to tell it to look for usb and scsi devices.. 'doscsi' worked for my scsi diskes... perhaps there is somthing liek dousb which may load the kernal with usb support....

i would advise trying then knoppix formatt anyway, cus if it dosent work, at least you have a formatted hard drive wjhen you go to put your main distro on

if knoppix is reeding the disk, couldent you just do a hardware install of that insteed?... i know its possible, but ive never had to do it...

im not 100% sure linux supports booting off a usb device yet... cus most BIOS chips dont....

if you can see the sb drive from knoppix/diskdruid perhaps you could do a minimal install on your hard disk (requiring about 5 gig or so) then put the rest on the USB drive.

/ 5 gig on 'C' drive
/usr on a 10 gig partition of the usb drive
/home on 1 partition of the rest of the usb drive

--possibally--
