Disappearing Partition in my setup!

Hello to all,

I have two hard drives in my setup, master is a windows drive, slave is a linux drive.

Windows has to partitions, win_c is on /dev/hda1 and win_d is on /dev/hda5

These were always accesible, and I had no problems seeing them in my device folder in kde.

I have had the computer on session for a day or two, so I don't know quite what happened. I did install SANE and pull a file from my windows partition and copied it to a new folder in /usr/local for SANE to use. I did run harddrake and look at my hd's for whatever reason.

When I rebooted the system, I got the following errors:

Mounting local filesystems:
mount: /dev/hda1 already mounted or /mnt/win_c busy

same for hda5.

I ran harddrake and tried setting my mount to win_c1 to see if that would help, but it didn't.

I edited my fstab and the hda1 and hda5 are there, so I just # them out to see what would happen. Well, they don't show up in my devices folder in kde, but I at least didn't get the FAILED at startup.

What is going on? What did I do? and, of course, how do I fix it? When i try to mount as root /dev/hda1 it say it is already mounted or busy.

How can I found out what seized control of the device, and reset it back to where it was?

Very frustrated, but, at least I can boot into windows and linux both correctly.

Oh, and if this helps, another twist. I have a usb drive, and it also was unmounted. I disconnected and reconnected it, and it still didn't register. When i edited my fstab to let go of /hda1 and /hda5... it came back, and works fine.

Thanks in advance for helping this newbie out!

I figured out what it was.. why it is, I can't tell you... but it's thanks to this forum and searching. One post out of hundreds was the key.

It was evms being installed. Once I uninstalled it, I booted up fine. Now, why this is, I have no idea. Will be on the lookout for the answer, so I can reinstall it at some later point.
