Disable nVidia video adapter on Dell laptop?
 

Dell is offering laptops preloaded with Linux (Novell SLED & Ubuntu) in my country, I really like to buy one (to reward them for supporting linux :) ). Unfortunately, most of their offerings are too low-end (like Celeron). I only found a few of their business-oriented models suit my needs (E4500D). The problem is all of them use nVidia 9200M DS, which I don't like. I really like to use intel integrated video adapters because I used to have excellent Linux experience with them.

Dell tech spec said these models use "Intel 45 Express Chipset", so I guess Intel 4500MHD is available.

My question is: In such case, is it possible to disable the nVidia video adaptor and use the integrated intel video adapter only? Have anyone tried this with dell laptop? Does anyone know are those nVidia chipsets soldered on the motherboard or just plugged into some expand slot? If it's plugged into expand slot, I'm even willing to buy one and pull that stuff out.

Well, this should be a good question for dell tech support. I've already tried that. Unfortunately their helpful tech support don't understand the question at all. They simply insist I cannot change ANY config for those Linux models, and in fact they don't know what is Linux. They actually told me they do not have any model pre-install "Lee-nix". After I told them they're offering E5500D with Novell SLED pre-installed, the response is "Oh, I don't know what that is, but it's not Lee-nix something as you said, right?". Well, I think I'd better give up on them and find answer elsewhere.

If they put in an nVidia chip, it's normally soldered on & they will use the intel chipset without the integrated graphics.

Thanks! I'm not interested in mod their motherboard, so I guess I'll wait a few months until such spec becomes "low-end" so they'll take out the nVidia thing themselves.
