Disable hardware

Hi Guys,

I am trying to disable one of the 2 nic's (one PCMCIA) that are on my laptop. I want to use the PCMCIA and not the onboard nic. What do i do? Can i diable one of them? if yes, how? Please help. I am currently usinh redhat es4.

the problem is that the onboard nic is assigned eth0 and the PCMCIA to eth1. The software i am using continues to read the address of the onboard nic.

Thank you,
Stephen

hi, stephenj

as root issue:
Code:
# ifdown eth0
at a command line and you'll bring down that interface. to disable it at boot time, you should modify your network configuration file (depending on your distro).

cheers

Hi zhelezov,

Thank you for your help. Will try and get back. Do you know what the network config file name in Redhat ES4 is?

Thank you,
Stephen

Hi zhelezov,

The software continues to read eth0's address and not eth1 's (PCMCIA) address. How can a hardware component be disabled in Linux?

Thank you,
Stephen
