Directory transfer question

Does anyone know of a program that would allow me to make a direct bit by bit transfer of everything contained inside a directory? My file system is screwed up so I cant see anything when I list the directory, but I can still open the files with direct paths.

Thanks.

Maybe I am not understanding this right? but if you don't know what's in the directory how are you supposed to transfer it?

There is nothing contained "inside" a directory. A directory is just a map of filenames to inodes, it's not a container. There is no such thing as a "folder".

I am also confused here, if you can open the files, what's the problem? Just cp them somewhere else.

When I try to list the contents of a directory I see nothing, not even folder names, the entire drive is also in write only mode, but I can cd through the directories even though I cant see them, I can even open files in nano if I give it the direct path. It is quite weird.

When you say list, I assume you mean ls. What about other tools, are they all the same? e.g. find.

Yes I was using ls, I also tried dir. Same results with find, which is to say none at all.
