Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

DirectColor,16bits, Wall, Head, Bash

Am currently trying to get 16bpp working for Directcolor on the following.

neomagic 2100 XFree 4.2.0
Radeon ATI 7500 Mobility on an IBM Thinkpad T30 (Xfree 4.3.0.1)

Have added appropriate Visual "DirectColor" to the XF86Config file.

Have checked the driver details via xfree86.org, and the mode should be supported, certainly on the Radeon card, absolutely no joy whatsoever.

Has anyone been through this process ?, Im pretty much despairing of seeing DirectColor in 16 bits or greater.

Possibly what I should ask is has anyone had directcolor working in anything greater than 8bits per pixel ?.

Im running KDE aswell I should add, could this be stopping me in my tracks ?).

Edit:

I should ask, has anyone had any luck getting a 16bit DirectColor display working at all in any XFree config ?.
