I have a DirecPC Satellite that 'has to be connected to a Win98 machine' (according to DirecPC. I haven't tried it on Linux yet. Has anyone else?). I am running Internet Connection Sharing on the Win98 machine, and am trying to access the connection through my Linux laptop over the network.
And this is working...well, sort of.
I can bring up web pages, but most of them will only load partially before 'stalling.' I've tried different browsers thinking it was a browser issue (caching), but it happens in Mozilla, Netscape, Opera, and Konqueror. Konqueror says 'stalled' in the status bar.
When I take my laptop to another location where I have a network with a Linux box masquerading ppp dialup, I can surf the web with no problems. This is leading me to believe the problem is either with the Win98 share, or the Satellite.
Does anyone have any experience with this or can lead me in ANY direction to solve this problem. I would love to be able to use my laptop with this Satellite connection, as DSL and Cable are not available in my area and I would love a faster connection than dialup.
How can I tell if it is the satellite, and if so, can it be fixed? Does anyone have a DirecPC satellite connection being used with a Linux machine?
I posted this question in both the networking and hardware forums hoping that maybe someone has used a DirecPC (2-way) satellite with linux. Any takers?
I understand the rules on double-posting, but the question itself is 2-sided. One issue may be a networking problem, while the other is a possible hardware issue. I did read the rules, but I am looking for suggestions from BOTH forums. Also, the reason I posted this question in this forum is because I was suggested to by a reply in the other forum.
I appologize to the readers if you consider this a 'Double Post.' My intent is to not start 'Duplicate discussions', but to just get some help on these 2 questions.
If you believe a post belongs in maybe two different forums, then it should go into the Linux - General.
Most of the members here that answer questions usually browse all the forums and that is why we don't want a discussion on the same topic in two different forums, therefore double posting is not liked by most members. That is why we have a rule of no double posting.
But clearly this belongs more in the Networking forum though.
Originally posted by obsian I guess I need to appologize again. I assumed since external DSL modems were discussed here, that Satellite modems could be discussed here as well.
Oh they can be discussed here, but I simply pointed out that your problem seems to be more networked related than hardware related, but the question should have actually been posted in the Linux - General forum then or

separate your questions into two different questions in the appropiate forums. But since they are related in a way, the Linux - General forum is best suited when this occurs.
