Digital HD Media Streamer to work with Linux

Thinking of fireing our TV program providers, and cutting back to broadband. We havea couple of flat screen computers with svga, and hdmi, snd usb connections.

Seems that some hardware is set up to work with Windows and/or android, but they don't mention linux.

Without expensive subscriptures, what is the best way to go? How to interface the computer running linux with the tv, and the programs that are available on-line?

i personally use a combination of PlexMediaServer running on CentOS as well as NFS connected via a WDTV (also look into a roku) to stream media to my TV and computers.
