Digital camera problem - digikam or USB issue.

Let's see if any of us can get to the bottom of this. I have a Kodak CX7530 Camera which takes excellent shots. On my Fedora Core 4 system I use Digikam to handle my photos. It worked perfectly until an upgrade from FC3 to FC$ and and upgrade to KDE 3.5.

After reading many forums I believe it was the KDE 3.5 that did it. I have recently upgraded to 3.5.01 but still my problem exists.

The problem:
Camera is recognized by USB. My dmesg output is;
Code:
usb 1-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 8
My lsusb output is;
Code:
# lsusb
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 008: ID 040a:057c Kodak Co.
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 04a9:106a Canon, Inc.
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
So USB detects and identifies but then doesn't do anything with it. It does not recognize it as a block device as /sbin/fdisk -l only sees my two harddrives. Nothing gets sent to dev/sda1 either.

Now if I use gphoto2 on the commandline then I get my pictures off the camera with --get-all-files however digkam will show a standard thumbnail icon (not the real picture thumbnail) and then error with
Quote:
Failed to retrieve file 100_0650.JPG from camera
when I click on any thumbnail. No pictures will download from camera through digikam. Now since digikam is a front-end to gphoto2 this seems bizarre.

I also can't access the camera at all via Konqueror. It doesn't show up on any device.

The Request:
Is there some link from USB to gphoto2/digikam that is being missed? Is there a USB to Konqueror link that should be possible? What might KDE3.5 have broken? Is there any config file that could be modified?

Do you need any further information?

Digital cameras

Have you read http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Install_a_digital_camera
? That helped me (the KDE tools did not), with another camera brand, though.
