Fedora should pop up a window asking what to do with the thing (either "download photos" or "mount volume" or something), if the model is supported. What kind of camera is it? Is it supported by gphoto library, which is used by Fedora I think?
You can try using gphoto2 manually to see if it detects the camera, or just mount the thing manually if it has flash memory. To do so, connect the camera, power it on and see what the command 'dmesg' says: if it talks about some device file like sda1 or sda4 or equivalent, use that to mount the camera. If there are problems, it should tell them too.
Code:
mount /dev/sda1 /mnt
That, as root, should mount the camera (if it was /dev/sda1) to /mnt, if possible. If it's not possible, it gives an error which should tell what's wrong; either the device isn't there, the filesystem is unrecognized or something.
should give you some useful information.
