Digital Camera, Epsilon 2.3
Hey there i just bought a little digital camera, i took a usb one thinking that it will work very simply as a mass storage device with a fat partition but .... cant beat the log to explain....

May 29 23:17:44 nerdzland kernel: unable to read partition table
Thats about it, i simply cant get it to read the partition table, im thinking they dump a few empty bytes at the start of the media. There is absolutly no documentation about it, exept a page to kentcomputers (site offline..)
If anyone have got a clue please help ou, ive tryed dd and stiff nothing also contacted the vendor to get a reply as "It shoudl work with recent kernels but we dont support linux."
Thanks for any help

Its assuming a disk size of 1Gb! nah, something's hosed. Maybe its accomodated for in a newer kernel rev, might want to try one of the rc's of 2.4.21, or see if its covered by direct access through gphoto, but really its probably a best bet to just buy around it with a CF adapter, or Smartmedia, etc.
Cheers,

thanks for the quick help, im blasted off now because i cant get anything to work with it what is this smartmedia card reader thing? If there a list of suported ones because i dont want to put myself in the same situation.
and with gphoto2 --shell i managed to get:
nerdzland:/usr/src/linux# gphoto2 --get-all-raw-data
Writing packet to port
*** Error ***
An error occurred in the io-library ('Error setting the serial port speed'): Could not set the baudrate to 115200
*** Error (-41: 'Error setting the serial port speed') ***
Anyway, how can u buy around it?

My favorite is the PNY Compact Flash or Smart Media adapters, they're about $10 US. Also, I think its got the same name in France as its one of the few parts I've ever picked up that was manufactured in France. Its as common as dirt and are supported in any kernel from 2.4.19 +
Most cameras have Compact Flash cards, yours doesn't have internal memory does it?
Cheers,
Finegan

I got the same errors when I hooked up my digital camera and ran the commmand: dmesg | less
I still got the device name which was /dev/sdb1
so i just did: mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/camera
After I did that I was able to see all my pics. Don't know what all those errors were about, don't really care since it worked.
