Difference between parallel cables

Is there a difference between parallel port cables used for
Windows Direct Cable Connection and Laplink? Which one can be used with PLIP under Linux?

USB is quicker than parallel. The laplink cable is effectively a parallel cable, but I believe it is a little quicker than normal parallel cables.

Linux does support direct cable connections. If you are a Linux Format reader, some months ago they covered this. I'll try to dig out the article when I get home tonight. If you like I could then mail it to you.
