devfs problems

Hi...... I have just installed the devfs with my slackware.... Everything seems fine.. The problem is that i can't locate the eth0 under the /dev
the ifconfig eth0 mpla mpla command
returns the error "no such device"
I have recompiled my kernel with everything from the network devices supported in it...
Any suggestion?

there never will be a ethX under /dev. try "ifconfig -a" to see if your eth0 is recognized correctly. if not (there should be something like lo and eth0 +maybe a loopback too) check your bootmessages with dmesg and lock for your networkcard there.
