/dev/usb/lp0 doesn't exist

Hi. I'm trying to use this command:

Code:
echo "Something" > /dev/usb/lp0
to write something to the printer, but I found out that /dev/usb/lp0 doesn't exist. I looked somewhere in the forum and saw it is something related to udev. Maybe something related to the kernel. The printer works correctly now (I had some problems before), but the strange thing I can't understand is that the kcontrol center says the printer is /dev/usb/lp0. What could this be? Is it possible that the printer is somewhere else, even if kde says it is there? I saw in some other threads the it could be in /dev/printer or in /dev/lp0, but it isn't there, since I don't have them. Where could it be?

what do you use to set up printing?

i'd install printconf if you don't have it, and webmin (all possible modules) so you can admin your sys better.

when the printer is printing something, check to see what dev it is using then.

also do a dmesg |more to see what your bootup screen is doing concerning partport.

I've already arrived to some kind of conclusion. There is some kind of problem with the newer kernel versions. It was not a problem of my printer, but a more general problem of usb devices. I reported the bug to bugzilla here: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=119896. Maybe someone could have the same problem. I solved everything by using kernel version 2.6.12-r9.
