Determine if memory is operating in dual channel mode

Hello,

I just bought a secondary bar of ddr3 memory. I noticed during memtest+ testing that the transfe rate was 3750 MB/s. This seems way to low for a dual channel ddr3 setup.

Can memtest+ be wrong in determining this speed? It is an old memtest+ version: 2.01 (the default intrepid memtest+).

Does anybody know how to verify dual channel in Ubuntu? I already tried cpu-z in a virtual machine, this doesn't work.

P.S. this is about a laptop machine, the BIOS therefore is extremely simple; there is no BIOS option I can set.

greetings,

Vasco

Hmm not sure about the software, but isn't the requirement for a dual-channel system to put DIMMS of like speeds in matching color memory banks?

I. e. on my current motherboard (ok, not a laptop, but the same principle should apply) to get dual-channel performance you need to put two DIMMS of the exact same speed in the two blue sockets (or the two orange sockets).

If you bought a DIMM that is of a varying speed from the others, and it works, it probably won't work at dual-channel rates. If it is the same speed, you'll probably need to physically place it in the correct DIMM socket (no idea how you do that with a laptop, with a desktop, put alike DIMMs in alike colored DIMM sockets)
